aKing's New Video Single: 'So Close'

aKing is one of the few bands doing something original in a scene that is full to bursting with SAFA-pop. I think it's great that we've developed our own, local, rock sound but, like anything pure and good in this world, there are those who would, and have, used it's powers for evil. It is in the dark that the light shines brightest, however (look at me, all poetic and not even drunk yet) and aKing, having done a metric shit-ton to build this aforementioned sound over the last few years, have continued to improve it. Jumping riffs, catchy melodies, unique vocals and, praises be-on-high, intelligent lyrics have put them smack-bang in the top five of this SAFA muso's list of Rad Okes To Get Pissed Jamming To.

Take a gander at their new music video for 'So Close'.
Big props to Adriaan Louw for a superb job shooting and directing. Looks great.

While you're at it, check out the video for Catch Alight, and watch the boys bet the shit out of each other for four and a half minutes. Spectacular.

ANC Wikipedia Page Censored

All my godlike Photoshop powers aside, I swear that I have not edited this. This is exactly what appeared on the Wikipedia page for the ANC at 13:00 today.

For those not in the know, this occurred in response to yesterday’s Black Tuesday, when South Africa’s ruling ANC government, against monstrous political and public protest, forced through the Protection of Information Bill. Said bill has made it illegal for any private citizen, reporter or media house to be in possession of any documents classified as State Secret. Printing or being in possession of such documents can result in up to 25 years jail time, which is more than some murderers receive in this country.

South Africa 3rd Most Obese Country in the World – Chins up, We’ll Get ‘em Next Time

Who ate the pie? You ate the pie. All you boerie gobbling, walkie-talkie munching, potjie shoveling, smily inhaling, bunny-chow wolfing SAFA fatties (I think I got all of you). And look what you accomplished. The results for the 2010 Glaxo SmithKline survey are in. South Africa is now the third fattest nation on earth.

Congrads. Have a cookie and pat yourself on the back. Or rather, get someone else to pat it for you. Don’t wanna waste those award winning calories.

Man Pulled Over for Driving Without a License, or His Leg

So this is a little old, but I got a chuckle out of it and thought I’d post it anyway.
Cape Town traffic officers pulled over a Bishop Lavis man on Potsdam Road on Friday morning to discover that the man was driving without a valid drivers license, and sans his left leg.

New These Creases Article - Vodacan’t: The Ball-Numbing Black Hole of Vodacom Customer Service

So, I’ll be the first to admit that I sit on the bottom rung when it comes to mobile gadgetry. Shiny things entice me, but my need to reaffirm my existence and temporarily stave off those pesky thanatic impulses via the wanton purchases of things that go ‘beep’ is constantly at odds with my more basic and all-together more irritating need for constant sustenance. And since bread is so expensive these days, my desire for upper echelon mobile devices is repeatedly snubbed in favour of a yummy pint at Rafiki’s and maybe some chips.

‘Ahweh’-lines: The SA Taxis Service To Hit the Skies in September

"I can see some of you rolling your eyes because of how our taxi drivers drive,” said Santaco business development officer Nkululeko Buthelezi to potential investors and reporters in Johannesburg, “I can assure you we won't allow our taxi drivers to drive [the planes]."

Arguably, this is not the best way to announce the coming of your new, low-cost, inter-city airline.

The RICA Crackdown

The word is out, so to speak. The public deadline for one of government’s more expansive and expensive efforts to accomplish absolutely nothing is fast approaching. For those of you who have yet to RICA your phone – possibly the most misguided attempt by our befuddled government to prevent crime since the mass parole and early release fandango of several years ago – you have until the 30th of this month to register or Big Brother’s going to cut you off, and they’re super-serial this time, guys.
