A Hat That Shoots Lightning And Plays Theme Tunes

This is exactly as awesome as it sounds. A young fellow from MIT recently took it upon himself to create what is arguably the most amazing piece of headwear this side of the celestial plane. Taking a cue from the closest thing that mankind has ever had to an honest-to-god mad scientist, Nikola Tesla, the unnamed student decided that the best way to bring all the milkshakes to his yard this Halloween was to strap a fully functioning Tesla Coil to his skull

…then make it play the theme tune to Mortal Kombat.

GEEK OUT: “John Dies at the End” – First Trailer!

So any of you out there who are avid Cracked.com readers will know what I’m talking about. Their senior editor, David Wong, went and got a book published. Somewhere along the line, Paul Giamatti decided to turn it into a movie. Between the guy who spends his days trying to systematically break down every idea, system and moral structure you deem safe and stable in this world and that creepy assassin from Shoot ‘Em Up, nose-bleed levels of WTFness and hilarity are bound to ensue.

Geek Out: Mortal Kombat: Legacy – The Nineties are Cool Again

If you are any good at the Internet, and have even an ounce of culture, then you will no doubt have already seen the brilliant re-imagining of that most bone-crunchingly awesome punch-em-up of the early ninties, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.

Created as a promotional video in order to coax Warner Bros into letting it’s creator, Kevin Tancharoen, write and direct the next installment in the MK franchise, the trailer accidentally slipped into the public domain via YouTube and immediately went viral. Needless to say, fanboys the world over simultaneously ejaculated glitter and fireballs all over their SNESes.

Said Graeme Thunderpants from his mom’s basement: “I was a high-powered executive in my early thirties with a seven figure salary and then suddenly, BAM!, I’m wearing a faded Metallica T-shirt and up to my eyeballs in acne. It’s the greatest day of my life. Way to make the nineties cool again, Kev!”

But did Warner Bro’s buy it?

Geek Out: My Little Geek-Out Ponies. Oh, and the Rugby World Cup

Ok, the Rugby World Cup kicks off today and I’m not embarrassed to say that I am stoked. There are days when nerding it up has to take a back seat to some good, old-fashioned patriotism and stamping on foreigners.

That said, here are some pictures of My Little Pony dolls hacked, slashed and grafted to resemble famous comic book and movie characters. Because, rugby or no rugby, it’s dangerous to go cold-nerd all at once.

Geek Out - Minimalist Superhero Posters

What better than some solid geekness on a Tuesday morning?

These posters were designed by artist Marko Manev and are supposed to be minimalistic, core representations of various superhero’s powers and personalities.

I can’t help but notice that each said core element seems conveniently represented by the characters personal logo or most prominent feature, which, one could argue, is a bit of a cop-out, but fuck it, who am I to whinge when I feel a perfectly good geek-out coming on.
