For those of you not in the know yet, ‘Name Your Hood’ is a rad initiative started by a group of CT locals. The premise? Well, as we all know, our suburb names don’t really cut it when it comes to differentiating between all the drastically varying sections and cultural pockets of town.
Let’s face it, “How about we meet at that new place, you know, near De Waterkant, but, like, about a block away, kinda near Midmar Bottle Store but almost one road up and next to that place with the monkey stickers outside?” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.

So these guys have had the marvelous idea to create a social media platform that gives locals the opportunity to single out and propose names for their favourite nooks and crannies of town. The idea is that, by using a local voice (and a handful of assorted professionals) Cape Town will develop a tone and flavour that is uniquely… well, Cape Town.
And I think that is just smashing.
