Terrifying Footage – 5 Dead After Stage Collapses in Indiana

Right, so there is absolutely nothing funny about this post. On Saturday evening, five people died and forty people were injured when the giant stage rig, one of the main attractions at the Indiana State Fair, collapsed into the crowd.

Organisers are blaming a series of freakish gusts of wind, measuring at over 60mph, which sprung up suddenly around 9pm local time. A prior announcement was made warning the public of a possible postponement due to bad weather, but officials say that the sudden bout of wind that flattened the stage came so suddenly that there was no time to issue an evacuation warning.

The fair was closed for the duration of the weekend, and will open again today with a memorial service for the victims.

Honestly, this feels a little cold. I realize that, for lack of a more sensitive expression, the show must go on, but two days…? I’m just hoping that their intentions are pure, and that the decision to go forward has nothing to do with cash or the more popular acts that were scheduled to follow, including Janet Jackson and Maroon 5.

Awful stuff. The video gave me shivers.
